Help Equip Children’s Clinical University Hospital with an Audiometry Booth

The Children’s Clinical University Hospital urgently needs an advanced audiometry booth to improve hearing diagnostics and treatments for its young patients. Audiometric booth is an audiology testing room that is built with highest quality soundproofing materials to provide a quiet space to conduct hearing tests. The patient is seated within the audiometric test booth and given instructions to either raise their hand or press a response button whenever they hear a tone.

The high cost of these specialized booths makes acquiring additional units challenging without external support. We invite you to donate and help us improve the lives of our young patients. Your contribution can make a significant difference.

Head of the Children’s Clinical University Hospital’s Ear, Nose, and Throat Clinic, dr. Janis Sokolovs explains,

“Specialists Children’s Clinical University Hospital’s Ear, Nose, and Throat Clinic provide over 20,000 outpatient consultations to children and adolescents annually, often identifying hearing-related issues that require prompt and sequential action through surgical or therapeutic interventions.

Currently, the Children’s Hospital cannot perform objective hearing tests for children under the age of seven due to the lack of a specialized audiometry booth. These patients are referred to the Latvian Children’s Hearing Center, where the wait for an examination is four to five months.

An audiometry booth at the Children’s Hospital would allow approximately 2,000 necessary examinations per year for children with hearing impairments, pre-surgery patients, those needing cochlear implants, children with acute or chronic hearing nerve diseases, palliative care patients for monitoring chemotherapy ototoxicity, and for hearing aid and cochlear implant adjustments, as well as better evaluation of postoperative results.

Acquiring an audiometry booth would significantly reduce the period during which children experience hearing difficulties, which can hinder language development, communication, and peer integration. Our youngest patients cannot always express that they have lost their hearing, cannot hear something, do not understand certain sounds, or explain what is “noisy” in their ears. By offering objective hearing examination services at the Children’s Hospital, we can accelerate and improve the quality of hearing rehabilitation and enhance patient experiences.”

About the Device:

An audiometric booth creates an optimal environment for conducting free-field hearing tests without the need for headphones, essential for accurate auditory assessments. The PRO45S audiometric booth is particularly noteworthy for its size, approximately 3x3m, making it ideal for children’s hospitals. It features a wheelchair-accessible door equipped with a ramp, ensuring free access for disabled individuals. Both the inner and outer walls of the booth are designed to be washable and stain-resistant, meeting hygiene standards. Puma s.r.l. offers this booth at the best market price, with delivery, installation, and user training provided by an authorized local company, ensuring comprehensive support and ease of use.
