Fenix Charity Fund Launches New Initiative to Support The Republican Šiauliai Hospital in Lithuania

The Fenix Charity Fund is proud to announce the launch of a new initiative aimed at raising funds to support The Republican Šiauliai Hospital in Lithuania. This initiative is part of the fund’s ongoing commitment to improving healthcare facilities and ensuring the well-being of patients in Lithuania.

The new initiative, titled “Help newborns with a non-invasive respiratory support device,” seeks to address the needs within The Republican Šiauliai Hospital by providing financial support for the purchase of a new generation of non-invasive respiratory support that creates a stable environment for the growth and development of premature infants, crucial for their survival. This device offers advanced features including optimal airflow, precise oxygen level regulation, and continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) to support proper lung development and overall growth. Its state-of-the-art technology ensures superior performance, meeting all the requirements for neonatal care. This initiative comes at a crucial time when hospitals worldwide are facing unprecedented challenges due to the ongoing global health crisis.

The director of Fenix Charity Fund, Santa Laizane, says:

“We believe that every infant deserves access to high-quality healthcare,” said Santa Laizane, the director of the Fenix Charity Fund. “Our new initiative is crucial because district hospitals like The Republican Šiauliai Hospital are often the first point of contact for patients before the most severe cases are referred to central hospitals. The ability to provide quality initial care or any care at all often means saving a life. Supporting Lithuanian hospital projects is vital to ensuring that these essential services continue to be available.”

Prof. Dr Vaida Aleksandravičienė, the coordinator of the Newborn Department of the Republican Šiauliai Hospital, explains:

“It is a non-invasive artificial respiration device that is necessary for premature and sometimes term-born but sick newborns. Thanks to this device, the chances of survival of premature newborns are increased, and the respiratory function of such newborns is helped to mature faster.

Modern new ventilators are relatively expensive and vital for premature newborns because they maintain positive pressure in the newborn’s airways, thereby providing assisted non-invasive breathing of the newborn after the newborn stops breathing. At the same time, intubation and full artificial ventilation of the newborn are avoided, and the likelihood of respiratory tract infections is reduced.

In Lithuania, premature newborns make up about 5-6% of all newborns born every year, some of them are very small and therefore they need the most help. Therefore, this device would help the smallest newborns born in the Šiauliai hospital to receive the best care. About 100 premature newborns are born here every year, they are treated and cared for in incubators, so the latest and most modern equipment is needed here. The device would not only improve and facilitate their survival and adaptation, but at the same time it would facilitate the adaptation of newborns born prematurely to live and become full-fledged residents”, says coordinator of the newborn department of the Republican Šiauliai Hospital.”
