Liepāja Successfully Hosts Inaugural Multisport Championship for Young Athletes with Disabilities
From July 3rd to 6th, the Liepāja Olympic Centre was alive with excitement as it hosted the first-ever multisport championship for children and youth with disabilities. Organized by the Children and Youth Para Sports Association, this landmark event was a resounding success, bringing together young athletes, their families, specialists, and volunteers for an unforgettable celebration of para sport.
Charity Fund Fenix proudly supported the championship, providing vital assistance. This marks the second time the Para Young organization has benefited from Fenix’s contributions. The initial initiative involved supplying specialized sports wheelchairs, which young athletes in Liepāja had the opportunity to use during both training and competitions this summer.
“We’re proud to see how our support is making a real difference—helping children gain better access to inclusive sports, develop their skills, and grow in confidence through active participation,” said Agata Baj, Director of Fenix.
The championship showcased the exceptional talent and determination of around 36 young athletes with physical disabilities. They competed in six dynamic sports: tennis, table tennis, boccia, curling, archery, and swimming. In addition to the thrilling competitions, the event featured engaging master classes, educational sessions, and fun entertainment—all aimed at supporting the participants’ development and social inclusion. It was an incredible opportunity for both new and experienced athletes to explore different sports, discover new interests, build confidence, and form lasting friendships.
Natalja Novikova, President of the Children and Youth Para Sports Association, shared her gratitude: “A heartfelt thank you to our sponsors, partners, and supporters – without you, these games would not have been possible. Your support is valuable not only in practical terms but also symbolically – it shows that inclusive sports in Latvia are growing and developing. See you next year – bigger, stronger, and even more unifying!”
The success of this groundbreaking event was made possible thanks to the generous support of key sponsors, including Charity Fund Fenix, Liepājas Pašvaldība (Liepāja Municipality), LVAGROO, LPK, LIVEINTEGRO, HENKEL, VENDEN, LNK, EUROLED, EUROFLIZES, CORALCLUB, ir MAXIMA. Their commitment helped create a truly inclusive and inspiring experience for everyone involved.
