Republican Šiauliai Hospital Receives Vital Respiratory Support for Newborns.

The Republican Šiauliai Hospital, the largest healthcare institution in Northern Lithuania, has received new equipment for non-invasive respiratory support for newborns, thanks to the generous support of both individual donors and the Fenix Charity Fund, which actively led the project by raising awareness and coordinating efforts. Walletto, a Lithuanian Fintech company, also played a crucial role by covering the majority of the funding required to make this project a reality.

Mindaugas Pauliukas, Director of the Republican Šiauliai Hospital, highlighted the critical need for modern medical equipment in the hospital’s neonatal unit. With outdated machines still in use, the arrival of the new equipment has provided a vital upgrade that will directly benefit newborns requiring respiratory support.

“Until now, the hospital had two similar circuits, but they were already quite outdated, so new ones were necessary. However, our hospital with 6 clinics and more than 50 departments is not able to update all the equipment at once. Therefore, we are always happy to receive support and help. I am pleasantly surprised by the quick, efficient and productive cooperation”, explains Mindaugas Pauliukas.

The device offers advanced features such as optimal airflow, precise oxygen level regulation, and continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) to support proper lung development and overall growth of premature babies.

“In the Republic Hospital of Šiauliai, about 1,600 newborns are born per year of which about 5-6% are born earlier than expected delivery date. The smallest newborn born in Šiauliai hospital this year weighed just over 1,000 grams and was only 30 weeks gestational age. Additionally, some full-term newborns are born with respiratory system disorders. All of these newborns need non-invasive respiratory (CPAP) and oxygen therapy, which we will now be able to provide with a new, modern, safer machine that has more functions and capabilities,” explains Vaida Aleksandravičienė, Neonatal Unit Coordinator.

Fenix Charity Fund actively supports healthcare institutions and a variety of initiatives aimed at improving the lives of children in Lithuania. While much of the fund’s work includes providing resources for vital medical equipment, its projects extend beyond hospitals, focusing on helping children in different areas. Over the past year, Fenix Charity Fund has developed strong relationships with several hospitals and organizations to ensure care and support for children in need.

”This project is yet another successful milestone for us, and we couldn’t be happier. We sincerely thank everyone who personally supported this initiative, shared it with friends, and believed in its realization as well as Walletto for their timely financial support, which allowed us to successfully complete this project, and we also thank everyone else who participated. We hope that the device we provided will be a significant step toward improving neonatal care as well as healthcare in general. For us, it’s essential to support organizations that are already making a difference, and we are committed to helping them to further strengthen and amplify their efforts,” explains Santa Laizane, Director of Fenix Charity Fund.

The project was largely funded by Walletto, with their timely financial support. This is not the first time Walletto has supported Lithuanian hospitals, nor is it the first time Walletto has partnered with Fenix Charity Fund in their initiative to assist hospitals in Lithuania.

“For Walletto, it is very important to support projects aimed at improving the health and well-being of Lithuanian citizens. We are proud to have contributed to such a significant cause and to have supported Fenix Charity Fund and their initiative at the Republican Šiauliai Hospital,” says Romans Baranovs, CEO of Walletto.
